The location; walk out to the bluff on site to overlook the beach, the Gualala river and sit back to take it all in. The breakfast is better than average (they even have a coffeemaker in the room !)
Rooms are on the small side and don't have ocean view.
The view from our room was the best and made the stay very enjoyable. The location to stores and gas stations was also very convenient. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was good. We had a great time in Gualala and will be back.
The bed was hard to get into
Motorcycle friendly, excellent breakfasts, everything you need to make yourself comfortable, I.E. Surf market -- stocks great wine & snacks, video store, great eats like Bones. And of course, you can't beat the location & view. I like that there are outdoor view "relax spots". The young lady manning the office was welcoming, knowledgeable, and especially helpful.
The queen room was small as motel rooms go ( but the 2 queen kitchen room is huge as motel rooms go, so they vary) but I chose that room & it was a nice room.
Owner/Manager has a great rapor with his guests. Breakfast bar had an excellent choice of food.
This nice and incredibly friendly and charming motel was the best place to stay in our whole 17-days-US-trip. No matter where you look, the beds are amazingly comfortable, the staff is friendly and really non-complicated regarding check-in and check-out, the breakfast is exceptionally delicious and the scenery visible from the Motel is great - such as the whole kalifornian Hwy 1.
Small but clean and cozy room. The bed is big bump, but sleeps great! Owner(?) bakes delicious waffles in the morning. Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean.
The owner, Eric, was a delight!...at breakfast he came out to the deck, with a refill coffee pot for my wife...a nice touch! He was also very welcoming...as" welcome to the Surf Motel" on arrival! Quiet, convenient, with a scrumptious breakfast! And THE PRICE!!!!!!!!!! We shall return! C G Auld
It was optimally located for our purposes and Eric was an excellent host, furnishing home cooked breakfasts and other items. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean.
The room was small, but they took the existing structure and added a fridge and a microwave, but that cost hanging space in the closet.
The lone staff person was overwhelmed with people wanting to eat (the food and coffee were completely out) and trying to take a steady stream of phone calls coming in. The owners need to hire at least one other person to be available during the busy morning breakfast/ phone call/check out hours. We felt really bad for the staff person and we went to another town for breakfast even though it had been included in our room charge.
Wonderful access to the beach and good view. Easy walk to eateries. Quiet and beds comfy. Liked the featherbed.
New windows are needed for safety reasons. Easy to open even though locked. A reading lamp on both sides of bed would be helpful. Better ventilation in the bathroom would be great - very steamy when showering.
Great room, view, friendly staff, good breakfast.
Excellent amenities, especially for the price. Pretty good breakfast included in the price. Awesome location, very nicely upgraded rooms with large Flat Panel TVs and DVD players. Right on the beach, most rooms have ocean view. European feather topper on the bed, very comfy. I was travelling by motorcycle and overnight the hotel staff put a towel over the seat of my bike so it would not be wet from the morning dew, what an awesome display of going out of your way for your customers!!
The view was spectacular and the price was good!!
Location worked well for us. They gave us a late checkout, 1 extra hour, without any problem. Nothing else particularly noteworthy.
Tiny room. No luggage rack. Refrigerator and microwave took up most of the small closet. Refrigerator had significant ice buildup. Room had some kind of odor in it. No place to drop off key if the office was unattended when we left. Feather bed was very uncomfortable. Noise from adjacent property was loud when bathroom window was open, which was necessary for ventilation. No fan in room to circulate air.
Very helpful and pleasant management, gave us ideas for hiking, dining, accommodated our needs. Offered a lovely breakfast which was prepared with care not just thrown out cheap stuff.
